More than one meter of rain fell in the Mount Seaview area on the Oxley Highway, in Australia.
The highway was significantly damaged by that heavy spring rain and at least five of the slips below the highway had huge damages.
The destructive power of the rain involved about 33 kilometers of the Oxley Highway, but the most important damage was definitely that 22-kilometer section which was completely closed to traffic.
A difficult recovery work began and it has included stabilizing the ground under the road at the two largest slip sites. The technique used has been the so called ‘soil nailing’ and it implied pinning the soil and vegetation onto rock with long steel nails, steel mesh and a concrete facing.
In these situations, the huge difficulty is installing the soil nails since the holes that are drilled to install the steel bars could collapse while they are being drilled!
Due to many floating boulders in the soil, the drill head tended to get stuck, so the drilling job required a powerful, reliable and sturdy drilling rig, but also a lot of experience by the driller.
The drilling rig selected for this important recovery work has been our MI2, the perfect choice for geotechnics and construction sites: easy to handle thanks to its compact size and light weight, but powerful and versatile.
Congratulation to Sytech Drillling, Australian drilling company based in Branxton, New South Walesfor, for this great work, successfully concluded, and many thanks for choosing Massenza for your fleet!
Many thanks also to Mccullochs Drilling & Boring, our Australian distributor, for its always amazing job and support.
